Well, I'm working on it. This thing. I like the idea of Neocities. I thank Geocities for about 300 pages of ferret information that I printed out, studied, and then attempted to use in a misguided effort to convince my grandmother that I should be allowed to adopt one.
It never dawned on me that my level of ferret care-taking knowledge might not be related to my being allowed to get one.
I never really had my own website.
I went from AOL chatrooms to internet forums and AIM, pivoted to MSN when it seemed like where things were at, and nestled myself into Neopets for all my tween years. Then it was Gaiaonline and...the world changed. Myspace and then Facebook. I tried Deviantart, but only used it to rip roleplaying characters, though I bought something on there once or twice.
Then my online presence dissolved into what it is now.
I was always a lurker.
I am a lurker.
I like this idea of a "Web Renaissance" where we go back to personal pages and webring platforms.
It's different--with the next generation adding a foreign flare that seems blaringly obvious to anyone but them--but that's no different than the 'Literate vs Illiterate' flame wars of digital days past, right?
Eternal September is eternal, after all.
I want to say "Welcome to my little corner".
My plan is simple enough. I have interests and hobbies, now, beside childhood escapism outlets.
Food. Writing. Videogames.
Geopolitics. Generative AI. Television.
Cats.
I like this whole "shrine" thing, too.
I lost someone recently. A shrine would be nice, though I know it's meant to be more lighthearted.
Maybe I could build more to lessen the blow of that one.
Either way:
I'm coming for ya', Rupi Kaur.
